Beta have done a good job styling a machine with a bare headset and a little legshield mounted screen. The four-stroke engine, supplied by Kymco, performs well in good conditions, the Eikon does not like a headwind or steep incline. The seat and dash have been modified from the 50, but the former offers little rider comfort. The reduced OTR price is further softened by a two year warranty. Tested T&G 14.

Beta’s mini/maxi scooter is not a bad looker in the styling department. Minarelli LC motor, Paioli gas shock, twin disc brakes and low profile 13in tyres. Acceleration is good when de-restricted, but the top speed, comfort and practicality of some rivals are all sadly lacking. Team Eikon colours are now in the range to appeal to a younger audience.

The slightly bigger brother by 25cc, the Eikon 150 has the grunt to make it that little bit faster - as it should do. This in turn makes it quite nice and it should pull 70mph quite happily. Engine aside, it’s exactly the same as the 125 version which means it comes with a two year warranty and a recent price reduction. Tested T&G 2.

The larger capacity C1 was built to meet owners’ requests apparently. The extra ccs over the learner version provide extra pulling power up hills and easier overtaking on the motorways. Another Chinese 125, although probably the first ever to carry a three year warranty. The top box is also included with the scooter. The price is average for a scooter hailing from the far East, does include front disc brake though.

A new producer of Chinese scooters, this one handled and performed perfectly well when blasted around London. The front disc brake was excellent in fact. Also has a luggage tray up front The scooters have a three year warranty
