This tidy little scooter is potentially good basic transport, and the 100cc motor offers a much more usable range than an average 50cc scooter. With an immobiliser as standard, this scooter has no obvious flaws. Even car mags can see this is a winner and award it their seal of approval. A good price and big dealer network guarantee success for this Peugeot scooter with styling that undoubtedly appeals across the board. Tested T&G 13.

Very reasonably priced 100cc scooter powered by a Honda-designed engine, and not bad looking. Exhaust features a catalyser, so performance may not be quite as hot as Morini powered machines such as the Malaguti Phantom. A pleasant and cheap alternative to a European machine, backed by a UK importer with a good history. Now with alloy wheels and guaranteed finance/subsidised insurance. Recent price cut (£100) . This is exactly what 50cc sports scooters like the Aerox really need: a 100cc engine. Reasonable top speed and same low-profile 13in wheels as on the 50. The Aerox is an expensive but sporty 100. The rev counter is a nice gimmick. Was due to be phased out in 2005, so if you want one be quick (but haggle). Tested T&G 2.

The 50cc Scarabeo has been a massive hit in its home country for Aprilia, the 100cc machine will no doubt follow. Only a limited number of these machines are planned for the UK market. This 100cc scoot should prove a light, nippy alternative to those that dislike the sportier models with smaller wheels. The Speedfight has become legendary in the modern British scooter market. Peugeot’s potent air-cooled engine is used (with a top speed of around 60mph), and suspension revisions since day one have improved the handling when flat out. A rear disc brake, pull-out ‘boa’ lock, and a coded key immobiliser both come as standard, and the powerful twin headlights are a ‘one-on, one-off’ function like the Gilera Runner. The styling had a minor make-over a while back that has kept it fresh and no doubt that’s partly why it’s currently the best selling over 50cc scooter on these shores. As well as standard colours it’s also available guise, as the WRC 206 replica celebrating Peugeot’s success in the World Rally Car Championships. These scoots also feature alloy foot plates and a rear spoiler too. The Speedfight is still popular in all walks of life, and will continue to be so for a while yet.
